Kristine Wylie, PhD
Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Infectious Disease

Wylie earned her BA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She then worked on The Human Genome Project as a research technician and laboratory manager before earning her PhD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology studying herpes simplex virus infections and host response. Wylie did her postdoctoral work in the field of microbial genomics, with emphasis on characterizing the human virome.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, taking her dogs for walks on trails, watching way too many movies, and traveling.

Jane Schrimpf, BS
Staff Scientist
Jane joined the Wylie lab as a staff scientist in June of 2019. Jane earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin and has worked as a research technician in several immunology and infectious disease laboratories, most recently at St. Louis University. In her free time, Jane enjoys reading, gardening, and walking with her dogs.
Madison Eschbach, MS
Research Technician II
Madison joined the lab in December of 2020 as a research technician. Madison earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville just before joining the lab. Her master’s thesis work focused on bacterial symbioses with a social amoeba, Dictyostelium discoideum. Madison enjoys spending free time with family and friends, reading and walking her dog.
Hunter Olson, BS
Research Technician II
Hunter joined the Wylie lab in August 2021 as a research technician. Hunter earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from the University of Minnesota just prior to joining the lab. During his undergraduate education, he participated in many on-campus and off-campus research opportunities in both microbiology and neuroimmunology. In his free time, Hunter enjoys spending time with his family and friends, going for walks at Forest Park, and exploring local coffee shops.
Sheila Mason, BS
Senior Research Technician
Sheila Mason joined the lab in October of 2022. She earned her Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and has worked in both hospital and research laboratory settings, most recently at Washington University. Sheila enjoys bike riding, visiting with her large family and keeping up with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Hannah Chakravarty
Undergraduate research associate
Hannah is an undergraduate student majoring in Microbiology and minoring in Global Health and Environment on the premed track. In joining the Wylie lab, she looks forward to combining her interest in microbiology with a passion for women’s and reproductive health. In her free time, Hannah enjoys spending time with friends, hiking, and exploring St. Louis.
Andrew Martin
Undergraduate research associate
Andrew joined the lab in February 2023. Andrew is an undergraduate about to earn his
degree in Biological Sciences at Lindenwood University. He is also a minor in education
and played football at Lindenwood. His studies have emphasized evolution and cellular
biology. Andrew enjoys eating at different restaurants, watching movies, and spending
time with friends and family.
Ryan Smith
Undergraduate research associate
Ryan is an undergraduate student majoring in Global Health and minoring in biology and children’s studies on the pre-med track. She is interested in health outcomes related to preterm birth and infections during pregnancy. She is also passionate about health education and awareness and teaches health curriculum at elementary schools. In her free time, Ryan loves to bake, watch movies with friends, and ice skate!
